MSM SERIES
Mobile forging manipulators
Our mobile forging manipulators of the MSM Series are the flexible solution for handling forgings under a press or hammer, loading and unloading furnaces and transporting forgings between the furnace and forging presses.
Our mobile forging manipulators are fast and maneuverable. This means: short handling times between the furnace and the forging press, overall shorter cycle times, fewer intermediate reheating steps and less non-productive times.
HIGHLIGHTS
The mobile forging manipulators of our MSM series have the perfect design to cope with the challenging operating conditions in forging shops. They are compact, easily maneuverable, robust and designed to operate in high-temperature environments.
Integrated into the control system of the press during the forging process, they perform the same tasks as rail-bound manipulators.
An MSM can operate as a single unit or in tandem with a rail-bound manipulator. The operation in tandem guarantees maximum precision, especially when forging long and heavy components.

MORE DETAILS
MANEUVERABLE AND ROBUST
Thanks to its compact design the MSM is the manipulator of choice for confined spaces as frequently found in forging shops. The central rear wheel gives the machine great maneuverability, enabling the MSM to turn virtually in place.
We are familiar with the challenging operating environment in forging shops. Therefore, we know how to protect our machines against extreme heat.
The manipulators of our MSM series have an extraordinary load capacity while at the same time being very compact.
SHORT MACHINING TIMES
Our MSM manipulators are usually powered by electricity via a cable connection. If they are used in several separate bays diesel or gas-powered propulsion may be recommended.
Highly dynamic hydraulic motors for the travel and rotary drive enable high acceleration values and top speeds. The hydraulics are so powerful that all drive shafts can be actuated at the same time. This results in short overall machining times.
Thanks to modern proportional valve technology, the manipulator can be sensitively and precisely controlled. That means parts are forged with high dimensional accuracy, minimizing subsequent machining costs.
You have the choice
Depending on the characteristics of the forgings, the tongs are manufactured either in high-precision cast components or as a welded construction of forged components. This flexibility enables us to comply with the most particular customer requirements.
We optimize each individual manipulator tong according to the flow of force.
DEEPLY INTEGRATED INTO THE PROCESS
The MSM series is generally designed for manual operation. The driver sits centrally above the forging axis allowing an unobstructed view of the workpiece. On request, we can also supply a remote control system that allows the operator to run the machine from a safe distance – from the control room, for example.
Integrated into the control system of the press, the manipulator follows the forging process automatically step by step. In tandem with a rail-bound forging manipulator of our SSM series a mobile manipulator operates as slave.
Sensors send comprehensive measurment data to the process control system. This data enables the process to be completely traceable and may serve as a basis for development activities. Via D&D Connect the data can be sent to a cloud for storage and evaluation.
In our machines “autonomous driving” has already become reality. This means they can drive faster more safely.
HIGH AVAILABILITY
DANGO & DIENENTHAL is the only manufacturer of forging manipulators to design the machines with a single central control block for all key hydraulic functions. The hydraulic lines are easily accessed and can quickly and conveniently be replaced whenever needed.
When our engineers design a machine, easy accessibility of all components is important. We often hear our customers’ maintenance staff say that they are impressed with the maintenance friendliness of our manipulators. All components are easily accessible thanks to the spacious interior of the machines.
Also the axial piston motors that drive our machines require much less frequent maintenance than systems using proportional valves.
The benefits: low maintenance effort and high availability.
UNOBSTRUCTED ALL-ROUND VIEW
Since the mobile forging manipulator moves freely around the forging shop, work safety precautions are crucial. On request, the machine can be fitted with a laser scanner that monitors the areas behind and to the side of it. Persons approaching the machine are warned by a blue spot projected onto the floor.
As a further option, the 270-degree “bird’s eye view” camera captures the area around the machine from above, increasing safety even further.
Whether during the drop-forging process or when transporting ring blanks the driver is able to have an eye on the workpiece at all times.
NO MORE ENERGY THAN NECESSARY
The integrated load-sensing system adjusts the power of the hydraulic system exactly to the current demand. This means that only just as much energy is put in as required by the cylinders and the motors.
